Focus Awards Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (QAN - 601/6091/3)


Qualification Overview:


The  Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement is intended for those who assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the work environment i.e.,  a workshop, classroom or training environment. Learners who undertake this qualification gain understanding of the principles and requirements of assessment, different types of assessment methods, planning assessment, learner involvement within assessment, assessment decisions, quality assurance, information management and legal and good practice within assessment.


Course Structure: There are two mandatory units:


  • Understanding the principles and practices of assessment
  • Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding

Focus Awards Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET)(QRN – 601/6099/8)


Qualification Overview:


The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) provides learners with the knowledge of the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training  and implementation of inclusive teaching and learning, It  is aimed at those learners not currently teaching, learners currently teaching and training and those currently working as assessors who wish to achieve a qualification that provides an introduction to teaching.


Course Structure: There are 4 mandatory units


  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
  • Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training
  • Understanding assessment in education and training
  • Understanding the principles and practices of assessment


Learner Entry Requirements:  There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification.

Age Ranges Entry: 
is at the discretion of the centre; however, learners should be 19+ to undertake this qualification.


Assessment Methods: Each learner is required to create portfolio of evidence which demonstrates achievement of all the learning outcomes and the assessment criteria associated with each unit.

Qualification Overview:


The Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (RQF) is intended for those who wish to gain an understanding of the principles and practices of assessment without any requirement to practice as assessors. Learners who undertake this qualification will be able to assess the candidate assessor’s knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of assessment.

  • Understanding the principles and practices of assessment


Qualification  Learner Entry Requirements: There are no set entry requirements for this qualification.


Age Ranges Entry: is at the discretion of the centre; however, learners should be 19+ to undertake this qualification.

Focus Awards Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (QRN – 601/6104/8)


Qualification Overview:


The purpose of this qualification is to confirm competence in an occupational role to the standards required. The The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement is intended for those who assess both occupational competence in the work environment and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in a workshop, classroom or other training environment other than assessing competence in a work environment.


Learner Entry Requirements: Skills specific/professional qualifications/industry contributions.


Course Structure: There are 3 mandatory units:


  • Understanding the principles and practices of assessment
  • Assess occupational competence in the work environment
  • Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding

Qualification Overview:


The Level 4 Award in Understanding the External Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice  intended for those who maintain the quality of assessment from outside an organisation or assessment centre on behalf of an awarding organisation. The learner will cover principles of external quality assurance, such as the function of external quality assurance and the role of an external quality assurer.



Course Structure:


  • Understanding the principles and practices of externally assuring the quality of assessment
  • Understanding how to plan the external quality assurance of assessment
  • Understand how to externally evaluate the quality of assessment and internal quality assurance
  • Understand how to externally maintain and improve the quality of assessment
  • Understanding how to manage information relevant to the external quality assurance of assessment
  • The legal and good practice requirements for the external quality assurance of assessment
  • The requirements of regulatory organisations e.g. Ofqual, SQA, QW, CCEA and awarding organisations

The Level 4 Award in Understanding the External Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice s intended for those who maintain the quality of assessment from outside an organisation or assessment centre, usually on behalf of an awarding organisation. The learner will cover principles of external quality assurance, such as the function of external quality assurance and the role of an external quality assurer.

  • Understanding the principles and practices of internally assuring the quality of assessment
  • Understand the context and principles of internal quality assurance 
  • Understand how to plan the internal quality assurance of assessment
  • Understand techniques and criteria for monitoring the quality of assessment internally
  • Understand how to internally maintain and improve the quality of assessment
  • Understand how to manage information relevant to the internal quality assurance of assessment
  • Understand the legal and good practice requirements for the internal quality assurance of assessment

Qualification Overview:


 The Level 4 Award in the External Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice is intended for those who maintain the quality of assessment from outside an organisation or assessment centre, usually on behalf of an awarding organisation.

The learner will cover principles of external quality assurance, such as the function of external quality assurance and the role of an external quality assurer. The learner will also understand how to plan external quality assurance of assessment and externally evaluate the internal quality assurance of assessment. The learner will also have the opportunity to practically carry out EQA activities to demonstrate competence.


Course Structure:


  • Understanding the principles and practices of externally assuring the quality of assessment
  • Externally assure the quality of assessment particular unit.


Learner Entry Requirements:

There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification. Focus Awards does not set any other entry requirements but training providers or colleges may have their own guidelines.
